Sioux Falls, South Dakota
On Tuesday the girls and Dan stopped at Falls Park and took some photos at the waterfalls. They also stopped at a cathedral in the downtown area and said a prayer for Erin that she get over the second round of the flu she was experiencing.
On Wednesday, the crew went to Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science as well as the zoo. The day wrapped up with the Midco Aquatic Center.
On Thursday the group went to a butterfly garden (the highlight of the trip) then returned to the Cities. On the way back they stopped at Good Earth State Park and the Pipestone National Monument. It was closed but they still walked there. Erin thinks that the park looks like a place Jesus would have wandered for 40 days. Lots of rocks and sparse vegetation but they did find a playground with some interesting structures.

Museums, Volunteering and Shows
Break started off with a bang. Emma and Erin had the flu over the weekend. Thankfully the chills and fever only lasted 3 days and we we back on track by Tuesday with our spring break plans. On the girls' first week off, we visited museums and went to many sports practices. Like usual, Analise has gymnastics practices. Emma is starting track and field practices. She is doing long distance running and the long jump as her events this season. We were able to walk downtown St. Paul and visit the History Museum on Wednesday. We also spent a lot of time going through clothes to figure out what is still "acceptalble" for middle school and what is too "babyish." We have a lot of clothes to donate this summer at the community garage sale.
Then on Thursday we visited the Walker Art Center with Aunt Sharon.
On Friday we got our passports for Canada this summer and Emma was told by the track coach that they want her on the varsity team. Now we just have to decide as a family if that is the right direction to go or if it is too much. The weather was great at the end of the week. The girls got their bikes out and road to the library multiple times. We also spent time with Chica taking her for walks. She is finally feeling better and acting more like her normal dog self.
On Saturday we went to the Ordway musical, "Dear Evan Hansen" about a middle school boy with social anxiety. The musical was very sad but a good way of depicting what so many teenagers go through when they think the grass is greener on the other side. Eventually all the things you thought were such a big deal become small and not as important. It just takes time.
Next week the girls will go to Sioux Falls, South Dakota with Dan for a few days. They decided to leave Tuesday morning so that they can still go to their sports practices and hang out with friends on Monday.

Impressive Work
Emma impressed her English teacher with her comic of Hamlet. He usually doesn't give out high scores on anything but Emma did an outstanding job. She has a talent for writing and drawing. Right now she is working on a 3D art project featuring our house in art class.

Snow Day
We received over 8 inches of snow yesterday. The girls and Erin had no school. After shoveling the driveway we spent some time building forts and a snow elephant in the backyard. We also went to Lenten services mid-day. It was nice to have time to relax and enjoy one last snowstorm before spring.

President's Day Weekend
We spent a lot of time cross country skiing on the Gateway trail and on White Bear Lake this past weekend. Erin and Dan went out for a Valentine's comedy show at our local Mahtomedi bar. The girls stayed home but got a bit worried when we were fifteen minutes late coming back from the show. The snow caused the comedians to be a bit late arriving to the location. On Sunday, the girls went ice skating with Dan in Birchwood on an outdoor rink and Erin took them to open skate at the Vadnais Sports Center on Monday. While at the Sports Center, the girls met up with Emma's friend Hannah and her younger sister. Erin got an extra day off school because of the freezing cold temps on Tuesday. The girls were bummed because their school was still in session.

Galantines Sleepover
Emma's friend group had a Galantine's sleepover this year at Nevaeh's house. We appreciate that families that go to our school limit screen time at their homes. The girls couldn't have their phones on the same floor as where they slept and they were required to complete interactive activities together. They played board games, painted nails, made tacos in a bag and hung out. Emma is lucky to have a welcoming friend group, something hard to find for most teens.

The Tempest
Analise was Trinculo in the fifth grade play this year. Like always she memorizes everything so quickly. We didn't even have to rehearse the lines and she knew exactly what she needed to say. It is hard to believe we are almost done with the elementary years!
